This beautiful, fragile, river scene on silk was mounted on conservation board by carefully stitching the fabric to the board. It is done in such a way that the work can be easily removed should it require conservation treatment at a future date. The artwork required protective glazing therefore the frame was fitted with UV99 conservation glass. Both the silk and the paint are vulnerable to light damage and this option will offer much greater protection than regular float glass.
The frame itself is a box type in flat poplar wood, the profile here is 15 x 32mm. It has a hand painted finish using Plummett by Farrow & Ball, a medium grey which brings out the tones in the silk. The frame has 15mm deep hand cut spacers and these match the mountboard so that the inside of the frame is a uniform tone.
The overall size of this frame is 570 x 575mm.
