Tibetan Buddhist Symbols

Eight Auspicous Signs
Undated
Bodycolour on Canvas
These Buddhist symbols, purchased in Butan, were bought in for re-framing. They were originally framed in a gold moulding on a blue background with the glass against the paintings. When removed from their frames the mount board showed significant fading from light damage and the client asked for conservation glazing which offers 99% UV protection. The pigments used for these works is water based and therefore also prone to light damage.

The moulding here is a 13 x 19mm profile in poplar wood. This was hand painted using Farrow & Ball's Green Smoke, a colour more sympathetic to the artworks than the original gold. This moulding is deep enough for the insertion of a 6mm spacer in order to keep the glass off the paintings themselves.

All the paintings are float mounted on white conservation grade board so that the viewers attention is fixed on the works themselves rather than a distracting background colour. All the frames in the series measure 385 x 365mm.
