19th Century French Silk Weave Patterns
These box frames were originally created to house the silk weave designs purchased from an exhibition in March 2015 at Rodney Archer's house at 31 Fournier Street in Spitalfields. We currently hold twenty-three of these wonderful original works on paper, originally discovered by the former curator of No.31, Trevor Newton.
Most of these examples were not shown in 2015, they were to have formed a permanent collection in Fournier Street. We subsequently acquired the twenty-three patterns from Mr Newton which we are pleased to offer for sale. This page will be updated shortly with some further images of the patterns. They are all inscribed with dates between 1850 - 1882, except one, and most are from the 1850's.

The frames are constructed in order to show both sides of these wonderful hand painted nineteenth century works from the studio of André Donat in Lyon, France. The reverse side features the date the design was made and also notes, in French, handwritten in ink. Some, like the image above, are signed Donat.
The box frames have conservation glass (99% UV filter coating) on the front to help preserve the gouache colours and the paper. The reverse is glazed with float glass. Each frame has been hand finished and painted using colours from the range by Farrow & Ball.
