Oil on Panel by Rachel Levitas
A composite Tray Frame in plywood and Tulipwood, one of a number made for a solo exhibition at the Camden Gallery, Gloucestershire in 2013.
The painting has been set inside a window cut 9mm plywood panel, painted with Farrow & Ball's Stony Ground. Window cutting the plywood panel rather than cutting and joining plywood strips eliminates the possibility of cracks appearing at the corners of the inner frame. The outer 15 x 33mm Tulipwood moulding is painted in the same colour.
The two parts of the frame were then sealed with satin varnish. Finally a 6mm gold spacer was inserted between the two parts of the frame, this compliments the ochre and warm browns in the work. The painting is 300 x 250mm and the frame is 390 x 340mm overall.
