Glazing the Frame
This work, housed in a box frame, by Aikaterini Gegisian is glazed with anti-reflective glass. It was photographed in the Tintype Gallery, London.
Glass comes in various types - premium 2mm float is standard. An increasingly popular alternative is conservation glass. This specialist glass has a low iron content resulting in a reduction in 'grey shift' so the colour and definition of the work appear brighter. It also has a UV filter blocking 99% of harmful ultra violet which can damage pigments and paper. This is the highest grade for UV filtration.

Valuable works on paper should at a minimum have conservation glass - natural and artificial light both emit UV. For more information see here and here.
Our clients also like A/R UV glass, this has an anti-reflective coating plus a UV filter. This glass both reduces grey shift and is almost invisible under standard lighting conditions. It comes in two grades, with a 70% filter and a 99%. The latter is the same standard as Museum glass. We can also frame work in Perspex when required. |
