Wood, wax, paper, nails and ink.
Wood, wax, paper, nails and ink.
This 30mm thick piece of wood, with stamps and a note attached, was originally part of a packing case . Found in a Polish house in an area which was formerly part of Prussia, it dates from the 19th century.
The wood was battoned, both to achieve a floating effect within the Tray Frame, and also to allow the retention of the nails around the border. The frame is made from Tulipwood, customised to make a tray profile of 13 x 45mm. It was then painted in Farrow & Ball's Railings and left unglazed. The overall size of this frame is 430 x 750mm.
