A watercolour by the East London Group artist Elwin Hawthorne (1905 - 1954) which we reframed for a client who bought it at auction. It has been floated inside an off-white conservation grade window mount. The frame is a custom made profile in poplar measuring 15 x 20mm, the frame was hand finished and painted using Lime White from Farrow & Ball.
The glass is AR/UV 99 WW - this is basically museum glass. It has a UV filter of 99%, an anti-reflective coating and the glass itself is known as Water White, hence the WW in the name. This specialist glass has a low iron content, resulting in exceptional clarity - the glass appears almost invisible.
The overall size of this frame is 355 x 440mm.
